Not a long time ago on the web was a trend of afraid of an overtraining. A few years ago that trend was replaced by another, that you should work up as hard as you can because an overtraining is doesn't exist, and more hard you train, more gain you'll have. Which of this theories is truer? Let's find out.
First of all, I don't care about opinions of people, who speak on this theme, but their knowledge is totally theoretical (99% of users who write comments on the Youtube sports channels). Only people who have a serious experience in training know what he talking about. And I think you already know what happened with most famous youtube blogger who preached overtraining. I'm about CT Fletcher, who had got a heart attack about half a year ago (it was not a first his surgery on the heart).
So, is overtraining exist? Yes of course. But most of the people don't know what it is. It is not when you feeling bad because of hurt in the muscles, and it is not when you experience a headache and you don't have an energy. I've had an overtraining a few times and I'll tell you how I got an overtraining the last time.
Years ago, when I've weight only 72 kilograms (159 pounds), I've decided to work-up really hard, to make a fucking straight extreme. So, I've started by deadlift, first 4 sets were warm-up, then I slowly came to the weight of 145 kilos (320 pounds) on the bar. I've made in total 52 reps in 4 sets. Then I came to dumbbell row for single-arm dumbbell row and after warm-up sets made 4 sets of 8-12 reps with the weight of 55 kilos (121 pounds). Then I made 3 sets of pull-ups with the extra weight (on my belt) of 23 kilos (~51 pounds), of 8 reps. Then I made the double-set for biceps (6 sets by 8-12 reps) and super-set for middle and rear delts (4 sets by 12 reps). And at the end, I came to the treadmill and run for 10 minutes.
Full training took 1 hour and 35 minutes, and after that, I've felt sick, I came in the shower, and I was there 15 minutes I think. I was exhausted, totally destroyed. I came home and I wanted to sleep (it was only 4 pm). And I didn't want to eat. I've made myself to eat, but on that day I was without energy at all. When I woke up in the morning I felt nausea and my body temperature was 39.8 degrees Celsius (~103.6 by Fahrenheit). Before that training, I thought that I'll much grow, but as the result, I spent 3 days after lying in the bed with the high temperature.
But why first everyone in the fitness industry first told that overtraining is very dangerous, and then that it is doesn't exist? Because all fitness industry works for sale to you their goods, and their advertisement, and an effective advertisement should be suitable to your desires. And after the growth of popularity of CT Fletcher the overtraining came to be a trend.
